Terms and Conditions
Please review these Terms and Conditions carefully before utilizing the Deck Stair Calculator website and job-site blueprint generators.
Critical Construction & Engineering Disclaimer
Deck Stair Calculator provides digital calculation tools and diagrams based on the model International Residential Code (IRC). It is intended as an informational, planning, and layout assistance tool. Local building codes, municipal amendments, frost-depth laws, and soil load-bearing capacities vary widely. Always submit your architectural deck plans to your local municipal building authority (Authority Having Jurisdiction / AHJ) and verify your measurements on site before cutting lumber or pouring concrete foundations.
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using deckstaircalculator.com (the "Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to all terms stated herein, you should not access or use this service.
2. Nature of the Calculation Tools
The calculations, blueprints, cut layout sheets, framing square gauge positions, and material estimates generated by this site are mathematical models. They are designed to assist professional framers, general contractors, deck builders, carpenters, and DIY homeowners.
The website does not replace professional architectural or structural engineering services. You are solely responsible for ensuring the structural stability, lateral load resisting systems, post footing depths, and safety of any deck stairs constructed.
3. Job-Site Verification & Carpenter Responsibility
Building safe stairs requires exact physical measurements. As the builder or planner, you acknowledge that:
- Finished Surface Measurements: Total rise must be measured from the finished deck surface to the finished lower landing pad, not unpoured dirt or rough joists.
- Bottom Riser Deduction: The thickness of one tread board must be removed from the bottom heel of the stringer to prevent a tall bottom step.
- Lumber Nominal vs. Actual Dimensions: A 2x12 board measures approximately 1-1/2" x 11-1/4", and composite boards vary in thickness (e.g. 0.94" vs 1.0"). You must verify actual board stock dimensions.
- Stringer Throat Depth: Solid uncut wood remaining along the back of the notched stringer (the throat) must meet local load minimums (typically at least 5 inches uncut wood).
4. Intellectual Property & Permitted Use
Deck Stair Calculator grants you a royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use the tools for personal, residential, and commercial contractor projects. You may:
- Print cut sheets and blueprint diagrams for use on job sites and presentation to clients or building inspectors.
- Copy calculated Bills of Materials (BOM) for purchasing lumber and fasteners.
You may not scrape, frame, redistribute, reverse-engineer, or resell the underlying source algorithms or website codebase without prior written authorization.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE WEBSITE AND ALL CALCULATIONS, BLUEPRINTS, AND CONTENT ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DECK STAIR CALCULATOR, ITS CREATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, STRUCTURAL DEFECTS, FAILED BUILDING INSPECTIONS, DELAYS, LUMBER WASTAGE, OR FINANCIAL LOSSES ARISING FROM THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THIS WEBSITE OR ITS CALCULATIONS.
